1. Registration
The 3rd Asia-Pacific Heart Rhythm Society Scientific Session (APHRS 2010) was held in Jeju, Korea from October 27 to 30, 2010.
This year’s conference, attended by 2,021 participants from 37 countries, concluded with success. Thankfully, APHRS 2010 could provide each and every attendee with opportunities for knowledge exchange and interaction in the field of arrhythmia.
With support from “The Korean Society of Cardiology” and “The Korean Society of Cardiac Arrhythmia”, Korea (27.46 %) had the largest number of participants, and approximately 1,000 participants were from the Asia Pacific region. In addition, many participants came from afar to be part of this significant gathering of professionals in arrhythmia (Czech Republic, Denmark, Iran, Latvia etc.).
The 3rd Asia-Pacific Heart Rhythm Society Scientific Session (APHRS 2010) exchanged the medical education credit system with the Japanese Circulation Society.
The credit is issued to Japanese participants of the 3rd APHRS 2010; it is considered as almost the same as the credit issued in an international or domestic conference held in Japan.
This is one of the ways to encourage many Japanese participants to attend the APHRS 2010 and share the latest information.

2. Scientific Program
The 3rd Asia-Pacific Heart Rhythm Society Scientific Session was preceded by a couple of events on October 27: Asia Pacific CRT Expert Summit organized by Medtronic, and APAC Carto Club hosted by Johnson & Johnson. Four plenary sessions, 40 symposiums, and other programs ran three days starting from October 28 to 30. During the period, 5 different luncheon symposiums were held every day, while the Dinner Symposium, held on October 29, was hosted by Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic, and St. Jude Medical. This year’s APHRS meeting especially featured an IAEA session under the theme “IAEA/RCA Meeting of Asian Network of Cardiologists in Radiation Protection,” disseminating the importance of radiation protection for Electrophysiological Procedures.

1) Live Case Transmission
On the 2nd day of APHRS 2010, live case transmission was held at the Korea University of Medical Center and Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital from 14:00 to 17:30. Furthermore, through the web broadcasting system, lectures by Dr. Marchliniski and Dr. Fermin Carlos Garcia were transmitted to the participants from University of Pennsylvania to the ICC Jeju and both EP labs in Seoul.
Dr. Warren Jackman, Dr. Shih Ann Chen, Dr. Akhiko Nogami, Dr. Minglong Chen led this live case with great success.
Dr. Chun Hwang, Dr. Yong-Seog Oh and Dr. Hiroshi Nakagawa were the operators at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital. Dr. Koonlawee Nademanee and Young-Hoon Kim were the case operators at the Korea University of Medical Center.
2) Abstracts
A total of 370 abstracts were submitted by 15 countries for the 3rd Asia-Pacific Heart Rhythm Society Scientific Session and accepted for an oral/chaired poster/poster presentation. Japan posted the largest number of abstracts submitted this year, followed by Korea and China. The submitted abstracts were reviewed through the online abstract review program, which made the review process more prompt and accurate, by our 20 judges; 28 abstracts receiving the highest scores in the review process were chosen to be presented orally in the Best Paper Basic/Clinical Sessions and in the Young Investigator Basic/Clinical Sessions. After such oral presentations, four abstracts for each best paper session were selected to be awarded the first (1 abstract), second (1 abstract), and third place (2 abstracts) best paper prizes at the Gala Dinner, and four abstracts for each young investigator session were selected to be awarded the first (1 abstract), second (1 abstract), and third place (2 abstracts) young investigator prizes at the Gala Dinner.
